  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and position the oven rack in the lower third.
  2. Remove giblets from the turkey cavity, pat dry with paper towels, and season generously with kosher salt and black pepper.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and zest. Cook until cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly (about 10 minutes).
  4. Brush the melted butter all over the turkey skin for crispy texture.
  5. Place the turkey breast-side up on a roasting rack in a pan. Pour half of the cranberry-orange glaze over it and roast for about 3 hours or until internal temperature reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
  6. Baste with remaining glaze every thirty minutes during roasting.
  7. Once done, let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
