Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin beef
  • 1 cup short-grain sushi rice
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sake
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1. Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar until dissolved. Add the beef and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. 2. Cook the Rice: Rinse sushi rice under cold water until clear. Combine with water in a pot (1:1.2 ratio) and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer on low heat for 18 minutes until fluffy.
  3. 3. Sauté the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef along with leftover marinade and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until browned.
  4. 4. Assemble the Bowls: Divide cooked rice among bowls and top with sautéed beef.
  5. 5. Add Garnishes: Sprinkle with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
